After Merel finished the bachelor IT law in 2022, she graduated in the Master’s degree in Corporate law at the University of Groningen. During her studies, she took various courses in the field of intellectual property. She was also active in the student association for IT law in Groningen and at the University as a study group teacher.
Merel wrote her thesis on the liability of the patent owner for the enforcement of provisional measures when it is later established that those measures were wrongly taken. She examined Dutch law regarding such liability in light of recent case law of the European Court of Justice.
As of 2023, Merel has joined Vondst Advocaten. Merel’s practice includes the general IP (litigation) practice, where her main focus is on patents and life sciences.
