Ricardo Dijkstra was interviewed by national Dutch radio about Toyota’s announcement to open up around 6000 patents in the field of hydrogen technology in order to boost the development and introduction of the hydrogen car.
Ricardo believes that this is a reaction to the earlier opening up of the patent portfolio relating to electric cars by Tesla in an attempt to make the hydrogen car triumph over the electric car. In the interview, Ricardo Dijkstra draws a parallel with the standard for VCRs in the 70s. Video 2000, which was considered the superior system, lost the battle of VHS, because Philips did not license the Video 2000 standard to third parties, while JVC did for the VHS standard.
